Generally I like to use one or two airlines for all of my flights.  Make sure you sign up for their frequent flyer programs.  It costs nothing and now on most airlines, your miles never expire.  You never know if you might just have enough miles on one airline to get yourself a free ticket 10 years down the road from now.  You also get benefits from it.  For example, on United Airlines, you get 5 extra inches of legroom if you fly a certain amount each year.

A few tips on how to get a cheaper flight
  • Stay a Saturday night.  If you are traveling on a weekend, the cost of your ticket will drop by about half if you stay Saturday night.

  • Traveling Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will also drop your ticket anywhere from 10 to 350 dollars.

  • Take red-eye flights.  They may seem annoying, but when you are traveling to Paris or London, they work just fine.  Those tickets will also be much cheaper than a 9:00am flight.

  • Purchase your tickets online.  Use flight search engines such as Expedia or Travelocity to find cheap fares.

  • ALWAYS sign up for the frequent flier programs with airlines.  It costs nothing and you get lots of benefits.
